Web 2.0 News

Web 2.0, also known as Web2, is the next iteration of the internet after Web 1.0, describing the 21st-century internet applications after the dot-com bubble. Dale Dougherty described it as a “read-write” web in 2004. O’Reilly Media and Media Live International held a brainstorming session during a conference that served as the inspiration for the idea. Web 2.0 technologies such as Adobe Flash, JavaScript, Microsoft Silverlight and others enable the organization and management of sizable international audiences with shared social interests.

The significant features of Web 2.0 — such as interactive, collaborative and dispersed behaviors — make it possible for both official and informal arenas of daily activities to take place online. In addition, Web 2.0 is participatory and focused on allowing reading and writing online, making web transactions bidirectional.

For instance, Web 2.0 also spawned self-publishing tools like WordPress and social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter. Despite these advantages, there is still a lack of communication and knowledge exchange across platforms and community boundaries in Web 2.0, which led to the development of Web 3.0.
