New Hampshire has approved a $100 million Bitcoin-backed municipal conduit bond, letting borrowers raise capital against overcollateralized BTC.

Lawmakers opted to study the proposal further following a wave of public concern over plans to loosen local controls on crypto mining in the state.

The bill is the first of its kind in a US state to become law after Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed a similar bill on May 2 and two Florida crypto bills were withdrawn on May 3.

New Hampshire’s House Bill 302 would allow the state treasurer to invest in cryptocurrencies with a market cap of over $500 billion.

New Hampshire is now the fourth US state to see a Bitcoin reserve bill pass through one legislative chamber, while a Florida House committee has advanced a similar bill.

New Hampshire’s Bitcoin bill will now be voted on in the House after its House commerce committee voted in favor of the bill in a 16-1 vote.

According to Satoshi Action Fund CEO Dennis Porter, the North Dakota BTC bill “already has 11 sponsors.”

It might come as a surprise if you only follow Congress, but a raft of state measures have shown legislators moving in the right direction on crypto.

A state commission recommended that New Hampshire eliminate the gray area in which cryptocurrency companies currently operate.

According to the commission, New Hampshire should work toward building a legal framework “for sound development of blockchain technologies and its applications.”

A New Hampshire bill would commit the state to a new UCC section before finalization to show its commitment to the blockchain industry.

The commission will have until Aug. 8 to submit a report "regarding the current status of the cryptocurrency and digital asset industry.”

The U.S. state of New Hampshire fails to pass its second bill to accept crypto for tax payments due to the high volatility of Bitcoin.

The crypto bill is progressing through local government, with a decision ultimately due in mid-March.

Following the FEC and a number of states, Colorado is considering allowing political campaigns to accept cryptocurrencies.
