Biography:

Marwan Alzarouni is the CEO of Dubai Blockchain Center. He is one of the Middle East’s crypto pioneers, founding OTC Supply, the United Arab Emirates’ first over-the-counter exchange, and setting up Dubai’s first Bitcoin ATM. He is recognized internationally as an advocate of blockchain technology, a strategic advisor and a keynote speaker.

Alzarouni earned a master’s degree in information security and intelligence from Edith Cowan University in 2005. He then pursued a doctorate in information technology at the same university, earning his doctoral degree in 2008. While pursuing his education, he owned a business called MySecured Inc. Since then, he started several other companies and has taken up leadership positions in some of Dubai’s top firms.

Founded in 2018, Dubai Blockchain Center is a global blockchain hub that supports the adoption of blockchain technology. It provides training for students, entrepreneurs and government departments. Apart from this, the company also hosts local and international blockchain events and conferences. The firm also provides blockchain consultancy to the private and public sectors.

Alzarouni’s 2021:

Alzarouni spent 2021 pushing blockchain adoption forward by speaking at the most prominent blockchain events in the region. Staying true to the goals of Dubai Blockchain Center, Alzarouni participated in events such as the Future Blockchain Summit, World Blockchain Summit, Artificial Intelligence Blockchain Conference, World of Web3 Summit, and DIFC Blockchain Week, to name a few.

Dubai Blockchain Center also continued to provide free blockchain training services to anyone interested in learning more about the technology behind cryptocurrencies. The company also signed a collaboration agreement with Helsinki Blockchain Center to bring talent, innovations, and ideas from Scandinavia to Dubai.

Aside from speaking at blockchain conferences in 2021, Alzarouni also worked in the nonfungible token and GameFi spaces. He became the co-founder of a Cardano-based NFT marketplace called Galaxy of Art back in September, and he also started as an advisor to an Algorand GameFi project called Zone in November.

Alzarouni’s 2022:

The UAE government has had its eyes on blockchain since 2018. Back then, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president and prime minister of the UAE and the ruler of Dubai, helped launch the Emirates Blockchain Strategy 2021 and the Dubai Blockchain Strategy initiatives. These directives aim to increase blockchain adoption under the belief that it will improve the quality of life in the country.

Because of this vision, the UAE will likely have a busy 2022 as it aims to achieve its goal of implementing more blockchain use cases and spreading information about the technology, and Alzarouni is expected to continue contributing his skills and knowledge to this cause.

To this end in 2022, Alzarouni is expected to push for further blockchain adoption and the expansion of the blockchain ecosystem in the country by participating in more industry events and connecting with key players within the industry. He is scheduled to speak at blockchain summits like the Global Blockchain Congress in February and the Cybertech Global UAE-Dubai 2022 conference in June.
