Kerry Wong is the head of investor relations at crypto investment firm Pantera Capital. Before this, she worked in a similar position at Scalar Capital. Wong also previously held positions at Millenium Trust Company and Barclays Capital. At the beginning of her career, she was employed at Citibank’s capital markets sales and trading team.
Wong studied political economy of industrial societies at the University of California, Berkley, earning a bachelor’s degree in 2007. She also previously held Series 7 and Series 63 licenses from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Wong is also a board member of two investment associations, the Seattle Alternative Investment Association and the California Alternative Investments Association.
Founded by former Goldman Sachs bond trader Dan Morehead, Pantera Capital is a hedge fund that specializes in managing crypto assets. In 2013, the company launched the first Bitcoin fund in the United States. The firm reports that the Pantera Bitcoin Fund is up 80,200% since it started. Aside from the Bitcoin fund, the company also invested in over 90 blockchain companies and 95 early-stage token deals.
In 2021, Wong participated in the Female Blockchain Leaders mentorship event held by Oasis Foundation to discuss the roles that women play in the blockchain industry. The event featured some of the most prominent women in the blockchain space and let them share their perspectives and personal experiences with an online audience.
In the same year, Pantera Capital made headlines as the firm grew to manage more than $6.4 billion in blockchain-based assets. The company continued to pursue its goal of backing projects that enhance the blockchain ecosystem. This manifested in its constant participation in investment rounds for exchanges, custodians, trading tools, DeFi, payment systems, and other blockchain-related fundraising initiatives.
In November, the firm also became a bridge for institutions to invest in blockchain and cryptocurrency. Reports showed that Pantera Capital raised $600 million for its fourth venture fund, with 75% of investments coming from institutions, with Wong likely playing a significant role in that.
Wong is expected to continue her work at Pantera Capital and be a vocal advocate for the crypto industry. At the start of 2022, Pantera Capital reached $63.7 million in funding from 153 investors for its Bitcoin Feeder Fund, which allows investors to indirectly take part in the Pantera Bitcoin Fund. This allows investors to gain daily equity without the need to personally buy and store Bitcoin.
The hedge fund also continues to receive investments on illiquid venture capital assets, which include tokens at their early stage along with multi-stage venture capital equity. Additionally, it continues to accept liquid assets like Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
After raising $600 million in 2021, the company is also planning to push the investments forward to $1 billion in 2022 in support of a new venture fund. The new fund is set to invest in company equity and project tokens. Apart from this, the firm is also planning to offer venture-only investment types for investors who are only looking for exposure in equity.
