The ninth edition of the world-renowned flagship Global Blockchain Congress by Agora Group, co-hosted by TDeFi, occurred Feb. 21-22 this year at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Dubai.

This edition’s theme was “The Decentralized Digital Reality: A Gateway to the Metaverse, GameFi and DeFi.” It boasted a lineup of speakers, including the opening keynote address by Her Excellency Dr. Maryam Buti Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Securities and Commodities Authority in the United Arab Emirates.

The conference agenda focused on building the metaverse and how Dubai can ensconce itself in this new frontier. The term MetaDubai was coined at the event where, in a panel discussion, some of the most influential blockchain leaders in Dubai debated the concept.

The Global Blockchain Congress featured more than 60 speakers, 200 investors, 30 sponsors, 20 media partners and 400 delegates. More than 350 one-on-one meetings were conducted between investors and projects during the two-day event.

Agora and X Ventures announced the launch of the X Competition, an initiative about finding, supporting and celebrating the changemakers and industry-disruptive nomads who dare to challenge the status quo and endure bumpy roads and failures in pursuit of their dreams. Legion Network won the first edition of the competition and the two other top spots went to Animal Concerts and Krowdz.

Blockchain Valley Virtual was the title and gala dinner sponsor, with Prasaga as a strategic partner and cocktail reception sponsor. Legion Network and Media Coin also served as strategic partners and coffee break sponsors.

The event was a closed-door, exclusive congress attended by invitation only. Agora hosted more than 200 investors and 30 sponsors in metaverse, gaming, decentralized finance (DeFi) and nonfungible token projects aiming to fundraise.

The first eight editions of the Global Blockchain Congress were a tremendous success, with more than 1,000 investors and 200 blockchain startups hosted and millions in funds raised.

Agora Group is excited to announce the launch of the Saudi Blockchain Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from June 6-7, 2022. Blockchain will meet Saudi Arabia — an event long overdue. It will be a platform for government officials, visionaries, leaders, investors, entrepreneurs and global movers and shakers to explore what a marriage between blockchain and the largest economy in the Middle East and North Africa region could achieve.

Jay Moore, co-founder and chief collaboration officer of Prasaga, said, “Our experience with Agora was exceptional. Every promise was exceeded, and every opportunity to engage with the right funds was exploited. But the real key was that it was all so well curated. Having done so many of these events, I have never had such a high hit rate. Of the 22 funds we spoke to, we had 20 with a strong fit. The dinner was a hit and the time we enjoyed in the Cleopatra Suite will create lifelong relationships.”
