Immutability and the lack of human interaction is a feature, not a bug

Biography:

A prolific coder, Andre Cronje is most known for his work in creating Yearn.finance and Keep3rV1. He has also worked on other known DeFi projects such as Sushiswap and Cream v2, among others. Cronje is a software architect with over 20 years of experience in development. He completed a three-year computer science course in just five months and was asked to stay on as a lecturer at the Computer Training Institute Education Group. He worked there as a lecturer for over a year.

Unbeknown to many, Cronje also has a law degree, which he obtained from Stellenbosch University in 2003. He moved into developing Big Data and high transactional infrastructure for telecoms before diving into cryptography and mobile security.

His recent efforts include building fintech solutions and using blockchain technology to offer DeFi products and services to the unbanked in his native Africa. He is currently the technical advisor for the DAG-based smart contract platform, Fantom.

Cronje’s style is: build first, fix bugs later. His “I test in prod” Twitter bio is well known in the crypto space, alongside his unique opinions. He wrote on Twitter once: “Disclaimer: when I build software, I build it for myself. If you do insist on interacting with it, please use caution, there will be bugs. Interfaces are built to make my life easier. I will make mistakes. If you don’t understand it, please don’t use it.”

Cronje’s 2021:

Cronje previously admitted to Cointelegraph that the press coverage portraying him as ready to leave the DeFi community on a whim and being “flighty” is “100% fair.” In January 2021, he discussed his love-hate relationship with DeFi at length in a blog post titled “Building in DeFi Sucks,” adding that it was written for therapeutic purposes.

Cronje shared salient points, though, and provided a peek into the world of DeFi development. The stress, Cronje writes, is compounded by people in the community bombarding developers with follow-ups, updates and even unfriendly messages: “Take something that is already difficult, and make it exponentially worse,” he wrote.

Cronje has also posted updates on his blog about some of the projects he’s been working on. Among them are several expansions and updates to his crypto NFT game Rarity. He also announced the launch of Convex Boost Delegation in November, which allows users to “delegate any unused veCRV to Convex to further increase their yield.” He also announced several updates on the Keep3r Network, including Fixed Forex and several other expansions.

Cronje’s 2022:

When Cronje tweeted “ve(3,3)” in early January, the crypto community went abuzz with speculations that the developer was set to release a new DeFi 2.0 project, but it was later revealed to be a new project on the Fantom blockchain called Solidly.

He teased several project features of ve(3,3), which he has been working on with fellow DeFi developer Daniele Sestagalli. In a blog post titled “ve(3,3),” Cronje wrote: “Quick article to explain how a ‘potential future’ emission-based token could balance ecosystem participants… Standard vested escrow rules apply.” Sestagalli also announced the project on his Twitter: “Me and Andre are launching a new coin on Fantom.” Fantom revealed further in a blog that “tokens will be airdropped to Fantom projects based on TVL.”
