About
What is Flow? Flow is a mainnet blockchain aiming to serve as a scalable network for building mainstream Web3 and metaverse solutions such as decentralized applications (DApps), decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and nonfungible tokens (NFTs). The native asset of the Flow blockchain is FLOW.
How does Flow work?
Flow is a layer-1 blockchain that uses proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus and is designed for building DApps and other solutions. The Flow blockchain pursues scalability through efficiency. Blockchains typically call on all nodes to do the work for the network and maintain all of its data, but the Flow blockchain vertically spreads the work for each transaction across four separate types of validator nodes, each completing a separate job that contributes to the function of the network. The four node types are Consensus, Verification, Execution and Collection nodes.
Among its other details, the Flow blockchain uses a smart contract programming language called Cadence. Creators of smart contracts on the Flow blockchain can tweak their smart contracts for a period of time while they are in a beta phase, which is communicated to the public. The smart contracts then become immutable afterward.
The Flow blockchain ecosystem is focused on developers, smart contracts and more. Who is behind Flow? Dapper Labs contributed to the initial development of the Flow blockchain.
FLOW price today
FLOW, the main asset of the Flow blockchain, has multiple uses, such as its role as the currency paid to interact with the Flow blockchain. The FLOW asset is also used by applications and other solutions constructed on the Flow blockchain. The FLOW token — or, more accurately, the FLOW coin — can be priced in U.S. dollars (USD), seen at the top of the page as a FLOW to USD live price. The top of the page also includes the FLOW marketcap and more. A FLOW price chart is also available above, showing FLOW price history.
