The Oblique Life Global Goals is a podcast demonstrating The Oblique Life’s commitment to supporting and promoting the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The podcast features leading speakers from all over the world who are at the forefront of driving social, economic, political and environmental change. The Oblique Life aims to educate and inspire collaboration and show that change is possible no matter where you are or how small you think your input is.
After a successful first season on “Consumerism in the 21st Century,” the podcast is about to launch its second season, focused on “Urbanization in the 21st Century.” This is a pressing topic, given that 70% of the world’s population will be living in urban environments by 2050, and regenerative cities will benefit the entire planet.
Over the course of 20 episodes, The Oblique Life will explore how we can build regenerative cities focusing on the role of governance, technology and entrepreneurship, elements that make up cities including food systems, water, power, mobility, waste management, nature, housing and healthcare, as well as the socioeconomic themes of refugees and forced labor, inclusion and equity, arts and culture, tourism and hospitality, the role of sport, the future of work, and who pays for cities and urban settlements beyond land.
To ensure near-term and direct impact, The Oblique Life will support one of four charities (1001 Fontaines, Eleven Campaign, Nula and SINA) every episode with donations as the podcast reaches listener/download milestones. It is also endorsed and supported by a group of impactful and reputable partners, including CCC by Arts Help, Cointelegraph, State of Green, Climate Chain Coalition and Glocha.
To ensure that the podcast is action-oriented and inclusive, each episode is curated around the following building blocks:
Understanding the challenges that we face is important, but sharing how we can solve them is inspiring! The Oblique Life Global Goals highlights innovative and impactful solutions.
Oftentimes, countries in the Northern Hemisphere have been seen as the solution provider and those in the Southern Hemisphere the recipient. The Oblique Life Global Goals features speakers from all over the world, including but not limited to Australia, Albania, Canada, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, Mexico, Pakistan, Slovakia, Uganda, the United Kingdom and the United States. This provides agency to those who are not always invited to the discussion table. It also demonstrates the potential in shared knowledge and collaboration.
Season 2 features over 60 speakers across a wide set of institutions and sectors including academia, the public sector, big corporations, SMEs, start-ups, NGOs, think-tanks and journalism. Furthermore, more than 60% of the panelists are women, a proud and important statistic particularly when discussing topics in typically male-dominated sectors.
Technology alone cannot solve the challenges we face, but it helps create better solutions. Throughout the season, The Oblique Life team discusses the role of new technologies such as blockchain, 5G and AI, always in the context of how real-world problems can be solved in an equitable, cost-effective and scalable way.
Irresponsible and uneducated human activity has accelerated climate change to the point where the existence of life on this planet is at immediate risk. Each episode addresses SDG13, “Climate Action.” Understanding the changes that can be made to address specific issues allows us to comprehend what climate action is required and can be delivered by all of us in the geographies, industries and communities we are part of.
The world needs to take action now, but knowing where and how to start is the hardest part. The Oblique Life Global Goals podcast gives people the agency to do this and make the changes we need today for a better tomorrow.
