On Thursday June 12, one of the leading online education provider in United States – Team Treehouse officially announced that it will be accepting Bitcoin via Coinbase as one of a payment options for HTML, CSS, iPhone apps, and other courses.

“Our mission is to bring affordable Technology education to people everywhere, in order to help them achieve their dreams and change the world, and we believe that Bitcoin can help us accomplish that.”
Today, Team Treehouse is an online education platform for students wishing to learn how to make websites or mobile applications using programming languages or how to start their own business. It was founded in 2011 and is growing fast, setting up many affiliate locations all over the globe.

The reason why they decided to accept digital currency includes the most obvious reasons including its rapid growth of global acceptance, higher security, and lower transaction fees:
“Bitcoin minimizes those fees, and transactions are quick and simple for all parties. This means Treehouse can spend more money on what’s important: creating more content and teaching our students the valuable technology skills they need to land their dream jobs, level-up their career, and more.”
Moreover, they say that Bitcoin will help the unbanked as it allows more people to focus on their studies:
“The reality is that most of the people in the world may not have a bank or PayPal account but they are likely to have a phone. With Bitcoin, all you need is a smartphone with a Bitcoin Wallet. With this additional payment option, more people than ever will be able to join our community.”
Since now there is an ever-increasing number of popular retailers and services accepting Bitcoin including schools and universities, digital currency is becoming legitimized due to wider mainstream acceptance and positive attitude from the media. Previously, the University of Nicosia in Cyprus was the first in the world to accept Bitcoin while Stanford University decided to offer cryptography courses.
