Mark Yusko is an investor, hedge fund manager, and Bitcoin supporter from the United States. He is well-known for co-founding Morgan Creek Capital Management, an investment management firm. In 1985, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Later, he graduated from the University of Chicago with a Master of Business Administration in accounting and finance.
Yusko worked at the University of Notre Dame Investment Office from 1993 to 1998, initially as an assistant investment officer and later as a senior investment director. He launched UNC Management Company for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s endowment investment office in 1998. Yusko was the company’s president and chief investment officer from 1998 to 2004. When it comes to digital assets, Morgan Creek Digital investments include cryptocurrencies, DeFi and NFTs.
Yusko provided CNBC with an updated estimate in May 2021, predicting that Bitcoin would hit $250,000 in five years. He went on to say that Bitcoin was more than a token of value to him:
“This is a network and networks grow in an exponential way. This is the fastest network in history to a trillion dollars of value, right on the heels of the FAANGS that took, you know, 15 to 20 years depending on which one you look at.”
Bitcoin, according to Yusko, is the gold standard and foundation of the cryptocurrency sector. When CNBC’s anchors queried Yusko about the recent advances in Dogecoin and Ethereum, he responded that only a few crypto assets will survive in the long-run: “So, yes, there’s room for a couple of protocols to survive, but there are thousands of coins and Doge in that category that really are useless, they’re just utility tokens that have no underlying value or use case and they’ll eventually disappear.”
Yusko’s company profile indicates that the organization had managed discretionary and nondiscretionary assets worth nearly $2 billion as of June 2021. In an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph in October 2021, Yusko stated that by creating the foundations for the Internet of Value, Bitcoin and blockchain would generate more wealth than Web1 and Web2.
Bitcoin, according to Yusko, will have a rocky ride in 2022. Yusko claimed that Bitcoin would easily hit $100,000 in 2022 in an interview on May 6, 2020 on the Altcoin Buzz podcast. Yusko was chosen to talk about investing in digital assets at YJP’s Virtual Mentorship with Finance Leaders in January. He will also be the speaker for Bitcoin 2022, a conference focused on Bitcoin, which will take place in Miami in April.
In an interview in November 2021, Yusko stated that Bitcoin is a digital form of gold for institutional investors, with greater usefulness than the top precious metal, and he expects Bitcoin to perform better than other cryptocurrencies in 2022. He recommends that clients invest 1% of their portfolio in Bitcoin and 3% to 5% in blockchain startups that use the technology.
During an interview for the YouTube channel Reimagine – Crypto & Blockchain Virtual Conference, Yusko shared his optimism about the future of DAOs: “The DAOs are a digital structure that allows us to migrate away from these historical legacy systems. And I absolutely think they will ultimately replace, but not very fast.”
