About
What is eCash (XEC)? Under the ticker XEC, eCash is a digital asset aiming to serve as an internet-based form of global money. The eCash cryptocurrency runs on its own blockchain and originated from a split of Bitcoin Cash (BCH).
Fork of Bitcoin
In 2017, a Bitcoin (BTC) hard fork led to the launch of Bitcoin Cash. In 2018, Bitcoin Cash itself split into Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV (BSV). Then in 2020, Bitcoin Cash once again separated in two — resulting in Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Cash ABC (BCHA). In 2021, BCHA rebranded to eCash and took on the ticker XEC. The XEC coin aims to give the world an option for sending digital cash and making payments, similar to how emails function in relation to communication.
Who is behind eCash? Bitcoin ABC is the name of the software behind eCash and is also the team responsible for the project’s development. The eCash project claims inspiration from deceased economist Milton Friedman. In 1999, 10 years before Bitcoin’s launch, Friedman was quoted expressing optimism regarding the potential to shrink the role of government thanks to the internet. He also predicted an online version of cash — which he noted was missing at the time.
Other assets can also be built on the eCash blockchain. Additionally, the eCash coin works with an anonymity protocol called CashFusion. Composed of eCash stakeholders, the Global Network Council, or GNC, determines eCash ecosystem funding.
