Today, on November 6, 2013, Senator Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee provided information about the launch of the Silk Road.

He told that this new website started scarcely after the Federal agents closed the original Silk Road. Such situation emphasized inevitable reality that high technology is very dynamic and developing so that the government is necessary to be adapted respectively. Instead of playing of “whack-a-mole” with the latest website, currency and another method criminals are used in avoiding the laws.

So, therefore, it is essential to develop careful, prompt and reasonable federal policies which will be able to protect the society without implementation of stifling innovation or increase of economy. The purpose of this committee is to lead such conversation between other members.

The formal investigation about virtual currencies was started in April 2013 by Chairman Carper and Dr. Coburn’s committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Chairman Carper and Dr. Coburn wrote to the Departments of Treasury, Homeland Security, and Justice, also to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodities Futures Trading Commission, and the Federal Reserve in August 2013.
