DApps, Rewards, Ecosystem, Algorand

Onchain data from the first week of Algorand’s “Algoland” campaign shows 34,646 participants generated 287,418 transactions, serving as a stress test that displayed the network’s performance.

For any blockchain ecosystem, growth depends on a vibrant cycle: developers build a variety of applications, which attract active users, whose presence then encourages more developers to build.

Gamified onchain campaigns have become a popular way to kickstart this “flywheel,” guiding users through an ecosystem’s offerings while helping new projects attract a critical mass of participants.

One such campaign is Algoland, a 13-week onchain questing campaign launched by the layer-1 blockchain Algorand to showcase its ecosystem and technical capabilities. The campaign, which began on Sept. 22, has concluded its third week, and the onchain data from its initial phase is now available.

The data from the first week

The first week of Algoland focused on user setup and referrals. Over the seven-day period, the campaign enrolled 34,646 participants who collectively performed 287,418 onchain transactions.

The referral system also proved to be a growth driver, with 25,212 new users brought into the Algorand ecosystem through invitations from friends. By the end of the week, 4,215 participants had successfully completed all the required quests and claimed their non-fungible token (NFT) badges.

Putting the network to the test

This surge in activity also served as a real-world stress test for the Algorand blockchain. With tens of thousands of participants generating nearly 300,000 transactions, the network maintained its performance. Users experienced the platform’s “low fees, instant transaction finality and zero transaction failures” firsthand.

The campaign’s gamified nature has also led to community engagement across social platforms, with participants sharing their progress, NFT achievements and referral milestones. This activity is generating continued interest in the campaign as it moves into its next phases.

How the campaign works

For those new to the campaign, Algoland is a strategic initiative designed as a guided tour of the Algorand ecosystem. Running until Dec. 29, the campaign transforms onchain activity into a game.

Each week features a new “Challenge” centered on a specific theme, such as decentralized finance (DeFi) or gaming. To complete a Challenge, users must finish a series of onchain “Quests,” which are individual tasks like swapping a token or minting an NFT on a participating decentralized application (DApp).

Completing quests earns points toward one of three grand prizes, which include 100,000 Algorand (ALGO) tokens, an e-bike and a vacation for two to a destination of the winner’s choice. To be eligible for the unique weekly prizes, such as a trip to Devconnect or a 1:1 lesson with a chess grandmaster, users must complete all of that week’s quests.

Algoland aims to help developers attract the active community they need to build sustainably by creating a rewarding way for users to discover new applications. Ultimately, campaign models like Algoland could serve as a way to bring genuine engagement over passive airdrop farming.
